Through the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) grant, the Board of Health’s Office of Prevention and Outreach and the Office of Planning, Development, and Sustainability are hosting a professional development training series on “Setting the Conditions to Create People-Centered Partnerships to Address Inequity in Medford.” This professional development was provided to community-based organizations, elected officials, and city staff.

Composting is a process of recycling organic matter, like leaves and food scraps, creating a nutrient-rich soil frequently used by gardeners. Composting can involve putting these materials in a separate container to naturally break down, to be picked up on a weekly basis by a curbside composting service, such as Garbage to Garden.

MEDFORD – The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) confirmed to City of Medford health officials today, July 1, 2021, that a mosquito sample from the City of Medford has tested positive for West Nile Virus. This sample was collected from the southwest region of the City on June 29, 2021. At this time there is no elevated risk level for West Nile Virus due to the positive sample. The City of Medford, through a contracted service, has mosquito traps that are regularly monitored, and samples are collected and tested. Following this recent positive sample, trapping and surveillance will be increased in the near future.

Due to forecasts of high temperatures over the next several days, cooling centers will be open at multiple locations from Monday, June 28th through at least Wednesday, June 30th. Cooling centers will be open for all residents, and will offer air conditioning and water for those in need.

Once each month beginning in June, constituents invited to join the Mayor at local businesses, parks, etc. to discuss local issues, or just to say hello!
